Black Tokanabe Vase w/ Red & Yellow Flowers Butterflies Vintage Made in Japan Art Deco Urn Style

This is a black vintage Japanese Tokanabe vase with flowers in an Art Deco urn style. The vase has a tapered bottom and top leading to a rolled edge lip at the top of the vase. The sides are decorated with 4 large scalloped triangle insets with red and yellow flowers with green leaves. There are two green, red, and yellow butterflies, one of each side of the flower, in each inset. Above the large triangles, there is a border line. Above the border line, there are four offset red and yellow flowers with curlicue leaves. The whole vase except for the border line, bottom edge, and top vase opening has been molded with a rough, crinkle like pattern. Tokanabe ware was a mold-pressed pottery made for US markets between 1920 and 1930 and sold by Sears from 1929 into the 1930s. It has a distinctive black matte finish and is often hand-painted. This urn vase is marked Made in Japan on the bottom.

The vase is in good vintage condition for its age and use. The paint is intact on the large insets and starting to fade on the smaller top flowers. There is one small chip on the top lip of the vase. Otherwise, there are no other chips or cracks. It looks like someone wrote Rex 1275 on the bottom of the vase in black ink. It's hard to read, but it is still there.

The vase measures about 9.75 inches tall. It is 4.25 inches in diameter at the base.
