This is the glass plate from the front of an antique altar scroll box that was made by the Koenig Brothers in 1904. The plate is reverse painted a dark blue with a twisted gold border and gold flourishes in each corner. The middle of the glass is clear with a black and gold border. There are angels in white and black to both sides of the center frame. This glass plate was the frontispiece on an oak altar box. Inside the box, there was a scroll of the Stations of the Cross, and when the knobs on the side of the box were turned, the images would scroll behind the center frame of the glass.
The glass is in good antique condition for its age and use. Obviously, it has been removed from the altar box, but there are no chips or cracks to the glass. The clear center window has some clouding and foxing dots. The paint is mostly intact with most of the missing paint to the edges of the glass where the plate would have sat against the wood.
The plate measures 8 inches long by 5.5 inches wide. It is about an eighth of an inch thick.
