This is an antique children's storybook titled New Chatterwell Stories. It was published by McLoughlin Brothers, New York. It features poems, songs, and stories with black Victorian etching illustrations. The covers are red with gold lettering and black illustrations. The spine is also decorated. This is a lovely antique children's book!
The book is definitely in antique condition and fragile! The gold lettering on the front cover is almost all faded, and the lettering on the spine has faded to only the original black lettering underneath. The covers have separated at both the front and back covers and the pages have begun to fall out at the beginning of the book. Two pages are detached at the beginning of the book, but they are still in the book. Grandma McAhan wrote, "To Erle R. McAhan, From Grandma McAhan. Christmas 1902.", making this book at least 122 years old! The pages have yellowed with some browning and foxing. This is a well-loved book and for good reason! It's so lovely!
The book measures 8.5 inches by 10.5 inches. It is 1.5 inches thick.
