Antique Danish Language Books Set of 4 Amtmandens Dotre (1892) / Den Forlorne Son (1894) / Lys og Skjon (1891) / Livsmaal (1915)

This is a set of 4 Danish language antique books - Lys Og Skjon by Georg Everard, Den Forlorne Son by Jonas Dahl, Amtmandens Dotre by Camilla Collette, and Livsmaal by Dr. R.J. Miller. Lys Og Skjon features a brown cover with gold lettering and a black bird, flower, and cupid within the side border. The spine is also lettered in gold with two fleur de lys. It has 175 pages. Den Forlorne Son et Nutidsoratorium features a blue cover with a flowers, sun, and lettering in gold. The spine is also lettered in gold. It has 108 pages. Livsmaal has a pale white-gray cover with embossed red clover flowers and leaves. The spine has gold lettering. It has 177 pages. Amtmandens Dotre features a grey cover with gold lettering and a small flower and an inset of cream with gold fleur de lys. The spine is also lettered in gold. Three of the books have patterned front and end papers; Livsmaal has plain white front and end papers. Lys Og Skjon was published in 1891, Amtmanders Dotre in 1892, Den Forlorne Son in 1894, and Livsmaal in 1915. They make for a gorgeous book stack!

The books vary in condition, but are overall in great antique condition for their age and use. All have minimal wear to the spine and corners. Livsmaal has discoloration to the covers with a thin diagonal smudge across the front starting at the D in Dr. and ending a little bit above the aa's in Livsmaal. The gold lettering is still bright on the covers but starting to fade on the spine of Lys. Lys's spine has cracked at page 17. Livsmaal's spine is starting to crack at the front cover. All have yellowed pages. Some of the books have what look like pages cut out, but it seems to be a product of the binding, as the pages are still consecutively numbered and none are missing. Antmanders Dotre was a gift to the St. Olaf College Library given by Olaf Morgan Norlie, who graduated from St. Olaf's in 1898. The book has a bookplate in the front cover as well as library stamps and embossing.

The books vary in size. Lys Og Skjon measures 6.75 inches by 4.75 inches. It is .5 inches thick. Den Forlorne Son measures 7 inches by 4.75 inches. It is .5 inches thick. Livsmaal measures 7.5 inches by 5 inches. It is 1 inch thick. Amtmandens Dotre measures 7.25 inches by 5 inches. It is .75 inches thick.
