This is a pyrography portrait of a St. Bernard or Burnese Mountain Dog. Pyrography is the art of decorating wood by using a hand-held tool to burn the surface. The portrait is oval in shape with the dog's head in slight profile in the center. The background has been burned in a curlicue pattern to give it texture. The sides of the portrait have been dotted. The back is marked Flemish 858 Art. The portrait has a small metal loop at the top to hang it.
The portrait is in great condition for its age and use. The wood has some general wear and discoloration but overall, the pyrography markings are still clear and dark. The edges have some very tiny chips, and the hanging loop is secured tightly.
The portrait measures 7 inches wide by 9.5 inches tall, including the loop. It is half an inch tall.
