This is a vintage Chinese calligraphy ink stone in its original box. The box is brown and made to look like wood grain. It has a blue sticker with Chinese letters above and inside the white oval cartouche. The letters above the cartouche read Natural High Quality. The ink stone is made of slate and sits inside the box. The ink stone has a lid with inscribed border lines on the top and a slightly inset square underneath. The ink well part of the stone has a deep round well in the center with a rounded triangle well to the side. This is for your ink brush.
The ink stone is in good vintage condition for its age and use. The top lid of the box has some wear with the label sticker peeling up on the right side and three-quarters of the way missing on the left. The white underbox is missing one side to make it easier to remove the lid of the stone. The lid of the stone has a faint Chinese character etched into it. There is discoloration to both top and bottom with a larger circular area of ink staining on the underside. The ink well part of the stone also has ink staining, as well as the inner sides of the box.
The box and block measure 3.5 inches square. It is one and one-eighth of an inch thick.
