This is a set of 4 midcentury Riverside Editions of classic books from the Houghton Mifflin Company. The paperback titles included are Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain (1958), Prose of the Romantic Period edited by Carl R. Woodring (1961), Walden / Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau (1960), and The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James (1963). The covers feature the name of each novel along with the author as well as a tiny repeating dolphin logo. The spines are solid colors with the title in big black font. Walden / Civil Disobedience is a dark green, Prose of the Romantic Period a periwinkle blue, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in green, and The Portrait of a Lady in pink. It's a lovely pastel rainbow book stack!
The books are in good vintage condition for their age and use. They have general wear to spines, corners, and edges. The covers and pages have yellowed, but the colors are still bright. A Modern Instance has a chunk of the cover and first few pages ripped away. The spines are all still attached, but they are paperback and glued, so there are areas where the spine is cracked, but the pages are still tight. There are pen or pencil marks in some of the books, especially Walden / Civil Disobedience, which has major markings.
The books vary in thickness but they are all 5.25 inches by 8.25 inches.
