This is a hand painted black lacquered wood box with a lid. The box is painted black on the outside with gold stenciled flowers on the edge of the lid. The top of the lid is painted red with gold flowers with black leaves. There is also a small gold bird in flight. The sides, underside, and inside of the box are plain black. The lid is hinged with small silver hinges, and there is a silver colored keyhole lock on the front of the box. There is no artist initials or makers mark on the box.
The box is in good vintage condition for its age and use. The paint is mostly intact, but there are several chippy areas, including a large one on the front right corner of the lid and an area next to the bird on the top of the lid. The lacquer is shiny. The seams on the underside are beginning to show, especially the seam along the back. There is no key, but the lock is in the unlocked position, and the lid opens and closes easily.
The box measures 7.5 inches long by 6.5 inches wide. It is 3 inches tall.
