Victorian Celluloid Glove Box Antique Black w/ Purple Pansies & Winter Cottage Scene, Yellow Interior

This is a lovely antique Victorian style glove box. The box is made of light wood covered in antique black celluloid on which is printed what looks like purple pansies or violets with surrounding gold details and flourishes. The top of the box is printed with inset yellow celluloid with white daisies and an inset decorative circle featuring a fenced in cottage and pond. The front has a gold colored metal latch and the back has two gold colored metal hinges. The inside of the box is lined in a lovely golden yellow pleated silk. The bottom exterior of the box is lined with a floral paper of blue on cream.

The box is in antique and somewhat fragile condition for its age and use. The celluloid on the top, front, and back of the box is intact, though starting to peel away at the edges, especially to the top sides of the lid. The celluloid on the sides of the box is especially peeling away, especially on the top right side of the lid where it is almost completely gone. The left top side of the lid is missing completely, and the bottom left side is beginning to peel away at the bottom edge. The front latch is missing the hinged locking portion. The box opens and closes easily. The silk inside is mostly intact with some fraying along the edges and along the pleats. The silk does have some slight staining and discoloration. The fabric lining the hinges is almost all worn away. All in all, it has amazing Victorian patina!

The box measures 12.5 inches long by 4 inches wide. It is 2.5 inches tall.
