This is a set of 1946 and 1947 editions of the Britain in Pictures series. It includes English Letter Writers by C.E. Vulliamy, British Botanists by John Gilmour, British Drawings by Michael Ayrton, Islands Round Britain by R.M. Lockley, English Diaries and Journals by Kate O'Brien, The Birds of Britain by James Fisher, and English Rivers and Canals by Frank Eyre & Charles Hadfield. Each edition has a colorful cover - pink, green, blue, or brown - with white lettering and a white outline drawing of something to match the topic. The books are illustrated with both full-color illustration plates and black and white illustrations and photographs. They have about 50 pages each. All in all, it's a lovely set of British culture, history, and nature guides!
The books are in good vintage condition for their age and use. Some still have their original dust jackets, but most are without. The covers are attached at the spine, thought loose to allow the books to lay flat. The pages have yellowed but the illustrations and illustration plates are still bright. They have general wear with some fading and discoloration to the covers and some fraying or tearing along edges and spines. Some of the books have the top half inch cut away from the first blank page; I'm guessing someone wrote their name on the page and this portion was cut away.
The books all measure 9 inches by 6.5 inches. Each book is about a quarter of an inch thick.
