Ancient World West Part Two Rome and the West Antique 1913 Allyn & Bacon Series of School Histories Edition

This is the 1913 Allyn and Bacon Series of School Histories edition of Ancient World West: Part Two - Rome and the West. It features a gray linen cover with black lettering and an illustration of a Roman triumphal arch. The spine is bound in black linen with lettering in gold and an illustration of a Roman emperor. The book covers Roman history from inception up to the Romano-Teutonic Europe, ending with the Dark Ages through to the empire of Charlemagne. There are 73 smaller black and white photographs and illustrations, as well as 21 maps. There are 11 full color maps, of which 5 are double-page spreads. Because this is part two, it has continuous pagination from part one, so the pages are numbered 297-667.

The book is in good condition for its age and use. The covers have general wear, especially to the corners and edges. The front cover has a dark spot right under the top title box, and the back cover has a larger spot on the edge of the cover. The spine lettering and decoration is intact with some very minor fading. Ward Hemenway wrote his name and Mount Vernon Iowa in ink inside the front cover. It looks like he drew a small flag and wrote some faint notes in pencil along the bottom inside back cover. The front spine is cracked at the Forward page, and the back cover is cracked along the inside back cover. The pages are yellowed with some foxing and ink blots, but the illustrations are intact and the full-color pages still bright.

The book measures 7.75 by 5.5 inches. It is one inch thick.
