This is a set of two antique books with red covers and gold lettering. The set includes the 1898 edition of Schillers Wilhelm Tell edited by Arthur H. Palmer, published by Henry Holt & Co. It also includes an undated 1900s edition of In Memoriam by Alfred Tennyson, published by The Henneberry Company. Both books have dark red covers with gold lettering on the spine. Wilhelm Tell has an embossed decoration on the front cover. In Memoriam has embossed flowers on the front cover and spine. In Memoriam has 268 pages. Wilhelm Tell has several black and white illustration plates and 404 pages.
The books are in good antique condition for their age and use. Tell has wrinkled covers. It was part of the Krehbiel Library in Columbia, Missouri and has a library stamp inside the front cover. Krehbiel also signed his name in ink as well as colored in the baby inside the front cover, turning it into a devil. The spines are starting to crack at the front cover on Tell. The last blank page has a missing piece. In Memoriam has a tear at the base of the spine. JB Walker signed and dated the book Jan 29 1904 inside the front cover. There is also a pencil inscription Calamus. In. to Elva Hemenway 1938. The spines are still attached. The pages on both books are yellowed.
In Memoriam measures 7.5 by just over 5 inches. It is just over one inch thick. Wilhelm Tell is 6.75 inches by 5 inches. It is 1.25 inches thick.
