This is a first edition, thirteenth printing of A.A. Milne's classic Winnie-the-Pooh, published by Methuen & Co. Ltd. London. The covers are a deep red with gold lettering and decoration on the spine. The covers are covered with a tan and red paper with a repeating pattern of laurels and geese. The front and endpapers are decorated with light and dark gold spirals. The book is fully illustrated with the original illustrations by Ernest H. Shepard. There are 159 pages.
The book is in fair vintage condition for its age and use. The covers have wear with staining to the cover papers. The cover papers are starting to peel up along the corners and edges. The spine leather is peeling along the edges but the gold lettering is still intact. The covers are still attached at the spine at front and back. Someone wrote Gregory Scott Burdine Age 8 in ink inside the front cover. Someone else wrote "Lots of love to Gennie from Aunt Jane. April-1937" inside the first black cover pages. The first illustration page at page 1 is detached, and some industrious child, perhaps Gregory, scribbled over the illustration in blue crayon. This person also scribbled on the illustrations through page 11, as well as pages 62-65. The rest have thankfully been left alone. Someone also tucked a flower in the pages which has since dried but stained the pages it sits on.
The book measures 7.25 by 4.75 inches. It is .75 inches thick.
